3rd VII Hockey v Eagle House

Score: 3-3

The 3rd VII arrived at Wellington College in fine spirits to take on Eagle House in the first fixture of the season.

With only a few training sessions under their belts, Amesbury started well and were showing some excellent skill on the ball. This skill led to Amesbury taking an early lead and maintaining it going into half time.

The second half began and Amesbury began playing a far more expansive game. Going wide helped create many more goal scoring opportunities however, due to some excellent Eagle House defensive play, Amesbury were denied all but one further goal.

The final score was 3-3 which was a fair reflection on how both teams had performed. Plenty for the Amesbury boys to work on going into their second fixture.

2nd Team v Priors Field
Lost 6-0

Players Player – Anabelle
Lady of the Match – Sammy

The 2nd team had a to wait a long time for their match on Wednesday. They had worked hard in the training session and warm up. They patiently watched the 1st team play and then they were on! It was a a tough match. Their U12B team were stronger than the 2nd but the 2nd team did not give up! They worked so hard to stay in the game, Anabelle made some super saves throughout the match and the final score could have been so much higher if she had not made as many saves as she did! There was great dribbling up the pitch from Sammy and there were some super tackles from the girls. When Priors Field scored, Amesbury ran the ball up to the half way line to restart the match with great perseverance. The subs changed over quickly and there was a good team spirit amongst them.

Mrs Page

1st Girl’s Hockey v Priorsfield
Lost: 4-3
Players Player: Emily B
Lady of the Match: Grace G

The match against Priorsfield 1s team started late but the Amesbury team were well warmed up and raring to go. The match flowed well with both teams advancing with the ball and then tracking back to defend. Amesbury gained advantage during the first few minutes and were able to score a quick goal. Priorsfield countered with a quick goal and so the match continued. Amesbury were able to win a few short corners and one of their goals was scored from a short corner. This match saw the Amesbury team feeding the ball out to the wings and quick players carrying the ball towards the D. This was a very even match but in the end Priorsfield were able to squeeze in a late goal to win.
