2nd XI Cricket 7th June 2017 v Highfield home Twenty20
Amesbury 111/3
Highfield 77
Won by 34 runs
This was a T20 due to the exam timetable necessitating a late start. Amesbury’s running between the wickets bordered at times on the insane and gave your correspondent’s blood-pressure an unhealthy surge though amazingly only one run out was effected. A competitive score was posted thanks to a handy opening partnership of 29 and a major stand of 63 for the 2nd wicket. Both our normally steady opening bowlers were slightly below their best although they both bowled some good deliveries and snared three wickets. The match was sealed by two things: the excellent first-change bowling which supplied 4 wickets for just 22 runs in 8 overs, a deserved reward for pitching the ball up, on and around off-stump; and the impressive Amesbury catching. Highfield went for some big hits and several horribly spinning skiers were safely held in an impressive display, one of the 2nd XI’s best for some years. Well played!
