1st VII Hockey Surrey Championships
Monday 5 March
After last week’s weather, this tournament was rearranged for Monday. The boys knew going in to the tournament that we were going to be up against several larger Prep Schools, but the aim was to play our way and perform to the best of our abilities. Our first game against St Georges, Weybridge was one of those tough tests that we had prepared ourselves for. Whilst the eventual tournament winners were clearly the stronger side, the boys did themselves proud with the hockey we played and the determination we showed throughout. In the remaining group games we achieved 1 win and 2 losses, but both of the games that we lost could easily have been a reverse score line, with Amesbury playing some excellent hockey and unlucky to be on the wrong side of the result on those occasions.
Due to our finishing place in the group we were drawn against Trinity in a playoff match, which was another stern test, but the boys performed admirably. Overall probably not the tournament result that we had been hoping for, but a great experience for the boys, and a good indicator of how we should be aspiring to play and the levels we should be striving for.
