Following our visit to The Lightbox in Woking earlier this year, the Year 7 pupils have been working hard to create ceramic vessels inspired by the work of British sculptor, Anthony Caro.
Using slab building techniques & tackling some complex forms the children have also considered texture, pattern and colour in their designs. Influenced by Caro’s industrial style they have echoed his use of strong geometric shapes, interesting juxtapositions and a bold use of colour in their work.
A selection of final pieces, along with some sketchbooks and a collaborative work will be shown this summer as part of ‘Centrepiece 2018’ at The Lightbox in Woking. The exhibition, which includes work from six other schools, will run from Wednesday 18 July to Sunday 19 August. I do hope that many Amesbury families will take the opportunity to see our young artists represented in this exciting event.
