On Thursday 5 July 2018 the whole of Amesbury school gathered in the Memorial Garden to witness the burial of the Centenary Time Capsule. Pupils from Pre-Nursery through to Year 8 basked in glorious summer sunshine as our Head Boy and Girl, along with Headmaster Nigel Taylor added items of memorabilia to the capsule. Over the last few weeks each year group have contributed items such as school ties, DVD recordings showing dancing and singing, along with photographs, current toys and other items of interest.
The time capsule has been buried to mark Amesbury’s centenary year in Hindhead, and it is hoped the capsule will be opened in 100 years’ time by its then current pupils.
Amesbury was founded in 1870 in Redhill, Surrey and moved to its current estate in Hindhead in the academic year 1917/18 due to bomb threats during WWII.
Other events to mark Amesbury’s centenary year in Hindhead included a ‘Friends of Amesbury’ party, organised by the parents of Amesbury children and the design of our Haslemere Hare.
