A large percentage of pupils at Amesbury play tennis and we offer children from beginner to national level the opportunity of learning tennis from committed, knowledgeable and driven tennis coaches.
Tennis is a life sport, played by both male and female, and can be enjoyed by ages from 2½ to 82½. Tennis offers the complete beginner, and the player that perhaps is a little nervous of contact sport, the perfect balance between competitive/social and simply just good exercise without the rough and tumble. Or the player that wants to stretch themselves into competitive tournament structure and perhaps play for school/club/county/country.
Tennis provides life skills, and provides development of hand and ball skills, fitness, confidence, control, adapting to situations, offensive and defensive play, social skills and a worldwide language.
Full time Head Professional Andy Warry leads the programme supported by a team of five coaches based at Amesbury. All coaches are DBS checked and have LTA/PTR/RPT qualifications.
Lessons
Tennis lessons are available from Nursery through to Year 8.
Group, individual and shared lessons are available throughout the year. Group lessons run in school time, after school and at the weekends. Private lessons are available on a 1:1, 2 or 3 sharing basis and are scheduled around each pupil’s timetable to fit in with their school day.
Groups are split depending on a player’s standard. For performance players i.e. high club players through to national standard, there is a performance programme designed to help each player reach his/her full potential.
Tennis Leaders LTA Courses run for Year 8 in their last term at school,; this is optional but gives them a solid understanding and is the first step of a Tennis Qualification.
Matches and Competitive Play
All children having lessons take part in the Amesbury Singles and Doubles Championships. The finals are held at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton.
In the Trinity Term teams are entered into the LTA’s Surrey Schools League and other LTA tennis festivals.
Players are also given advice and encouraged to play LTA Rating tournaments. LTA Tournaments will be arranged where possible for the players to gain tournament experience at the weekends and during the holidays.
In addition
Holiday courses, group lessons for parents, family tournaments and supervised free play practice sessions are available.
For more information about holiday courses please refer to the Holiday Courses page which details forthcoming dates and how to book.
