Last month two of our Amesburian’s represented the school at Bedale’s annual Youth Dance Platform (YDP). Isabella, from Year 6, and Jennifer, from Year 7, performed two solos amidst a variety of dance pieces from surrounding Secondary and Performing Arts schools. The YDP is a platform developed by Bedales to encourage local dance organisations to thrive and debut their new work. In the past Amesbury has taken along larger teams showing conceptual, narrative pieces and this year the girls represented the school with two solos.
Isabella performed an emotionally charged dance that navigated the emotions that come with experiencing grief (to Ed Sheeran’s, Give Me Love). As one of the youngest performers this year, Isabella fully owned her place within the show’s running order. Other than a few trembles in the wings, she was quite unshakeable throughout the day and performed two very touching, emotive and sincere pieces that did the mature topic justice.
Jennifer took inspiration from her role as Juliet in Year 7’s production of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ (performed earlier this year) and co-choreographed a piece depicting the star crossed lover’s thoughts before taking her sleeping potion (to Crosby, Stills and Nash, Helplessly Hoping). Jennifer has been a long standing member of Amesbury’s dance department and both performances at the YDP were a testament to the finesse that comes with years of hard work in the discipline; she was exquisite both in her expressions and her technique. Thus, it goes without saying that we were all fully proud of the two girls for representing the school with professionalism and true talent! Also, a brief note must go out to Lily Johnson (OA and cheerleader for all things dance during her time at Amesbury) who performed before the girls and did a wonderful job in both performing her piece and supporting Jennifer and Isabella.
