U11B Cricket vs Lanesborough

The U11Bs we eager for victory from the first ball bowled. They opened the batting and displayed some confident and aggressive shot selection from the very start. Unfortunately the outfield was slower than a very slow thing that was trying to be extra specially slow and so many shots that would otherwise raced away to the boundary, only resulted in a single. Despite this, Amesbury managed to battle through to 69-4 off their 20 overs.
Lanesborough went into bat and although equally their shot selection, they were less keen to take quick singles. This fact combined with some superb fielding meant that in their 20 overs, Lanesborough were only able to manage 59-5 meaning Amesbury won by 10 runs.
A superb effort by the whole team and a thoroughly deserved victory.

U11A cricket versus Lanesborough
Amesbury won by 5 wickets
The Amesbury Under 11 A cricket team recorded a good win over Lanesborough in Guildford on Wednesday. We won the toss and captain Jack elected to take the field. We bowled pretty well, although our line and length can certainly be improved upon in some cases and that, coupled with some fairly lackluster batting by our opposition and a lush growth in the outfield limited our opposition to a fairly meager total of 68. We made a good start with Jack and Jake getting in and starting to pick up the rate. Jake was soon bowled and replaced by Tom who added a few more before he was caught and bowled. Jack was the main contributor scoring 28 before unfortunately losing concentration and getting bowled late on. We lost a couple more late wickets, but the ‘ship was soon steadied’ and we cruised to a fairly comfortable victory by 5 wickets with 3 overs to spare. Well done to the boys!

Report: At last, bright sunshine and blue skies on a Wednesday afternoon. Winning the toss, we batted and were indebted to a superb unbroken 4th wicket stand of 122. Extras contributed 80 to the total. Our opening and first-change bowlers bowled very steadily to get Lanesborough behind the required run-rate and a hat-trick reduced them to 50/6, before they rallied. Well done on a good performance to start the season.

Amesbury v Box Hill
Amesbury started batting first against Box Hill School. We had a 30 ball innings which started slowly with a lot of missed or weak hits which didn’t allow us to score half rounders. After a second or third attempt, Alice managed to hit a lovely shot which gave her a full rounder and Annie scored 1/2 along with another 1 1/2 from poor bowling.
Then it was our turn to field with Izzy bowling and Alice at backstop. Inconsistent umpiring led Izzy to give away a lot of half rounders so the actual score does not reflect the standard of play. Izzy made a great catch as did Jenny so well done to them. Immy, Annie and Lottie shared the roles of 1st, 2nd base and near deep trying out the best combination. We had moments of brilliance and others of random throws or poor catching allowing the opposition to score 3 full rounders. Box Hill did have two good hitters which made it difficult for Jenny and Olivia to run to the ball and throw with any degree of accuracy to Charlie at 4th.
Amesbury v King Edwards
Amesbury decided to field first with the same positions. 30 balls again with Annie having a great catch to get their first player out. King Edwards were much stronger than the girls had anticipated so they tended to panic and throw the ball to the wrong base which allowed KES to make 7 full rounders. We had the same problem again of long hitters which couldn’t be stopped by the deep fielders and thrown back in time to Charlie to stop them scoring. More half rounders were scored and a couple given away by bowling errors. KES scored 12 rounders so we had our work cut out when it came to batting.
Alice scored straight away with 1 full rounder then another half later on, a few halves for poor bowling, Jenny also scored a full rounder with others contributing halves. Immy was stumped out at 2nd as she ran on without looking where the ball was going so that is something to learn from. KES played well with great hitting and good fielding. Amesbury held their own but have to learn to watch out for the good hitters and remember where they hit and how far away to stand. A very enjoyable afternoon rounders with some lessons to take home.

1st XI Cricket v Lanesborough
171/7 beat 126/8 by 45 runs
A great afternoon for the boys to complete their first match of the season. On a warm sunny day we won the toss and decided to bat. Henry and Lucas started us off very nicely, putting on a lovely 83 run partnership before Lucas unfortunately hit a full toss straight to mid-wicket. Ollie joined Henry and continued to build a good partnership. We did lose several wickets towards the end of the innings because we tried to attack and capitalise on the lovely platform set by the top order. Henry showed great class and composure to finish with a 65 off 59 balls.
We knew that if we could bowl well in the initial overs then we would put a lot of pressure on Lanesborough. This is exactly what Ollie and Toby did, bowling very well, meaning their required rate increased. Other bowlers came on and performed well, taking wickets at regular intervals.
Great all round performance and win for the first game, well done.

1st Rounders Team
Amesbury won 7 to 3 ½ rounders
The Amesbury 1st Rounders team started the batting innings with some strong hits forcing the King Edwards Team to adjust their fielding positions very quickly. In particular Georgie scored 3 rounders herself by hitting the ball over the heads of the fielders. Libby, Lara and Emily H all scored half rounders by making the most of their hits.
When it came to the fielding innings the Amesbury girls demonstrated their teamwork and communication skills with some very accurate throws, quick decision making and knowledge of the game. Dora never dropped a catch on 1st post, Betty and Emily B were able to throw the ball accurately and quickly from deep to their team mates on the posts.
