Under 11A girls’ hockey v Feltonfleet
Lost 0-3

Lady of the match: Jasmine

The U11A’s put in a steady performance today against a very strong Feltonfleet side. Feltonfleet dominated from the outset and we struggled to close down their quick passing. They moved the ball fluidly around the back of the pitch, giving them time to make the right pass into attack. A few early breaks gave Feltonfleet lots of chances; two of which they popped home with ease. Nonetheless, Raffy, Laura and Jazzy defended well and made some fantastic block tackles in the game. Alice also made some great saves, clearing the ball confidently wide. Katie, Lyla and Lucy made some good breaks and created some fine chances. However, we just couldn’t break through the solid Feltonfleet defence.

Despite trailing 0-3 at half time, the girls really listened well to advice offered and the second half saw the girls showing more formation and a greater sense of space. Jasmine created some lovely chances and we were really unlucky not to add to the score sheet following some good short corners. Despite losing the match 0-3, the U11A’s should walk away feeling proud of their performances. The second half was a 0-0 draw, a real improvement on the first half.

Well done girls. Mrs Dover

1st Team Girls Hockey v Pennthorpe
Score: 3-3

2nd Team Girls Hockey v Pennthorpe
Score: 1-1

It was a cold afternoon for the 1st and 2nd Team Girls on Wednesday. The teams warmed up in the Sports Hall whilst the U11s were playing Felton Fleet on the astro. The 1st Team ran on to play their match at 3.00pm and were keen to get started.

It was a very balanced match and Amesbury started on the defence, Pennthorpe scored in the first couple minutes of the game which provided a wake up call for the 1st Team. Once into gear the girls closed down Penthorpe’s attack well and Emily scored a great goal with a super set up from Georgie. It was end to end play and there was better structure in their defence which allowed quick distribution of the ball up the field. An exciting game which ended 3 – 3 (scored by Grace), fab saves by Alice in goal!

The 2nd Team were quick to follow, they had eagerly watched the 1st Team, play and with the temperature dropping it was their time for a run around to warm up! Pennthorpe started strongly and there was strong defence from Anabelle in Goal and Maddy clearing the ball wide under pressure. The defence played with determination limiting Pennthorpe’s circle entries and therefore opportunities to score. At half time it was 1-0 and in the second half Amesbury was hungry to equalise. The girls were quick on the break and passed the ball well amongst the team which led to a fantastic goal from Isabella after a cross from Immy. The match finished 1-1.

A great afternoon of matches, well played girls! Mrs Page

U10 B Girl’s Hockey v Feltonfleet
Lost: 7-0
Players player: Alice M
Lady of Match: Millie O

The U10 B match started well with the Amesbury midfield of Flora, Elsie, Isabelle C and Rebecca moving the ball into the Feltonfleet D numerous times but they were unable to score a goal. Feltonfleet kept up the pace and kept moving the ball towards the Amesbury defenders. Millie and Hattie worked really hard and were put under a lot of pressure by Feltonfleet. Millie made some great tackles and cleared the ball very strongly however Amelia came under a lot pressure and kicked away many shots on goal. Daisy made a good run at the Feltonfleet goal and came very close to scoring. At the end of the match spirits were high and the girl’s had enjoyed playing.

U10 C Girl’s Hockey v Feltonfleet
Lost: 1-0
Player’s Player: Ellie
Lady of the match: Alice M

The U10 C team made a very good start to their match and put the Feltonfleet team under a lot of pressure and this resulted in many shots on goal during the entire match. However the Feltonfleet goal keeper was very strong and Amesbury were unable to score. The Amesbury midfield of Alice M, Tallulah, Jemima and Ellie worked hard all match pushing forwards and coming back to help the defenders. Alice made some great runs and Daisy was often in the D to receive the passes. Defenders Cecily and Hattie were making strong tackles to deter the Feltonfleet players. Amelia in goal seemed more confident in her position and cleared a lot of balls. At the end of the match the Amesbury team were happy and had enjoyed the game.

Girls U11C Hockey v Felton Fleet

Won 4 – 0

The girls played their match on Fyfield in cold, windy conditions on a pretty muddy pitch. Typical conditions for this time of year. From the outset Amesbury took the lead with the ball never leaving their attacking half. Emily was the player of the match working closely with Sienna to push the ball forward with both of them scoring goals. Mia also did a sterling job in trying to intercept ball and passing to the forwards. It was our tenacity that won through in the end. Although play was difficult as the ball went nowhere on grass in the winter it still gave the girls a chance to play on a alternative surface to astro and appreciate that different skills are required. Flora who was supposed to be goal keeper put on her pads and played in a defensive role along with Alice and Lucy, ensuring that no balls got past the half way line. Well done to all the girls.

Under 11 B Hockey v Felton Fleet
Score: 1-1
Lady of match: Clara

The under 11B team had a great game today! They began the game with real hunger and although Felton Fleet scored first, Amesbury held their positions well. After a settling half time chat Amesbury took to the field with determination.  Tackling strongly we gained more possession as we moved the ball more efficiently to each other. Amesbury did well to score off a good attacking drive leveling the game at 1 all. The girls continued to hold their positions, especially in defence to come out with the draw result. Great team work today Under 11B girls, well done!
