3rd XI v Hoe Bridge: 3 May

Lost to Hoe Bridge by 4 wickets with 8 balls to go

Amesbury arrived at Hoe Bridge on an afternoon where we were all hoping the weather would hold out for a competitive game of cricket.  Tom and Christopher were sent out to bat after the toss and made a solid start to the Amesbury innings.  Individually they both added steady runs to the visitor’s total with Tom running well between the wickets to rack up the singles.  Christopher played a patient innings making 20 with a couple of boundaries.

Other Amesbury batsmen came in to make contributions on an outfield which was quick thick and not forgiving for balls hoping to run to the boundary.  Amesbury finished on 72 after 20 overs but it could have been more had a number of shots destined for the boundary not come up short in the outfield.

Hoe Bridge came out to bat and it was clear that their opener was the key wicket to claim.  Will A did well as captain to set his field and strategy of his bowling attack.  Will A himself bowled well with a wicket maiden in his second over to take the opposition to 16 for 1 after 4 overs.  Cosmo and Finlay made their own contributions with the latter clean bowling his opposite number to Amesbury’s second wicket of the day.  Will H steadied the ship for Amesbury taking a wicket for 2 runs off 2 overs and Tom took two wickets in just the 17th over of the match to make for an nervy conclusion.  Notable mentions should go to Theo and Hugh for their fielding in particular after taking two impressive catches.

Hoe Bridge won by 4 wickets with just 8 balls to go.
