At Amesbury, we love to hear about our Old Amesburians (OAs) so it was wonderful to hear from Rick Parfitt Jnr recently and hear him recount his days at Amesbury.
“I loved my time at Amesbury and have so many amazing memories that I still hold dear to this day, from wining the Senior Victor Lodurum 3 times to being awarded my school colours by Mr Hamilton (I still can’t bring myself to call him John!) which was to this day one of the proudest moments in my life! I cannot express how much it meant to wear the colours badge on my team shirt! But, most of all, I remember the culture and the school spirit which was that we always felt like we were constantly punching above our weight on all fronts by beating much bigger schools in sport, having one of the best small choirs in the UK with the now famous film composer Harry Gregson Williams as our Music teacher, and gaining scholarships and results that would make any prep school proud.
Even now well over 30 years later I still feel connected to Amesbury and cherish it as a very special time in my life that fired my interest in music and sheer competitiveness in sport…which started me on the path to having the most successful event band in the UK and motorsport to be a two time British GT champion… and it all started at Amesbury.”
Rick, the son of the late Status Quo frontman Rick Parfitt, began his racing career in 1996 and competed in the UK national and international karting championships until 2004. Since then he has competed in a wide range of championships, most recently racing in the 2019 British GT3 Championship season, driving a Bentley Continental. 2021 is yet another exciting year for Rick, who is returning to Motorsport in the British Touring Car Championships, racing a Hyundai i30N with the EXCELR8 team – Rick we wish you every success!
Rick’s other passion is music, fronting The RPJ Band who prior to lockdown performed all over the world. He brings his zest for life and boundless energy onto the stage, and combined with his hard-working attitude, delivers performances hard to forget – traits he possessed during his time at Amesbury. Once restrictions have eased we look forward to hearing about Ricks latest musical adventures too.
